Why Sustainable Workplaces Make Sense for Business & People

At Burrough Court, we believe work should feel better.

Not just in what you do, but in where and how you do it.

Sustainability isn’t a line in our brochures; it’s a principle we live by.

Whether you’re a creative company, professional consultants or health and wellness practitioners, from the power in our buildings to the soil beneath our feet, we’ve shaped Burrough Court as a sustainable workplace to tread lighter on the planet while helping businesses like yours grow with purpose.

A Practical Approach to Sustainability

We’re a rural business park with a working arable Estate here in the heart of Leicestershire. Over the last two decades, our focus has been simple: create a place that nurtures both people and the planet. We don’t make grand claims or rely on carbon offsets. We make tangible improvements every year, measured in soil health, biodiversity, and renewable energy.

Managing the Land Responsibly

Our Estate covers 1,000 acres of farmland, and about a quarter is now dedicated to environmental projects. We’ve planted more than 75,000 trees and 3,564 metres of hedgerows, creating vital wildlife corridors across our land.

Flower-rich margins, bird-seed plots and buffer strips line our fields, part of the UK’s agri-environmental schemes that protect pollinators, birds, and soil health. We monitor soil-carbon levels, ensuring we’re improving the land’s natural ability to store carbon and sustain life for generations to come.

Generating Our Own Power Through Solar Energy

We generate a large share of our electricity from on-site solar panels with clean, renewable power feeding directly into our business units. On bright days, our solar arrays supply the majority of the park’s energy needs reducing reliance on the grid and cutting emissions for every company based here.

Design Green Office Spaces

For our office space, we’ve invested in a biomass system and a ground-source heat pump, providing renewable heat to different areas of the business park, half of the courtyard is air source and half is biomass. These systems warm our buildings efficiently, with a fraction of the carbon footprint of traditional boilers. Together, these technologies mean our customers benefit from an environment that’s modern, efficient, and genuinely sustainable.

Designing Business Units That Waste Less

For our Business Units, energy efficiency runs through every part of our design. Our buildings are well insulated with LED lighting and smart heating controls, helping to reduce both emissions and costs with EPC Rating A. These choices improve performance and align with the expectations of modern, responsible companies.

Making Greener Travel Simple

Sustainability doesn’t stop at our doorways. We’ve installed electric vehicle charging points across the site, two 22 kW chargers in our Paddock car park, making low-carbon travel easier for both teams and visitors. Combined with rural cycle routes, ample parking, and calm countryside access roads, commuting to Burrough Court feels refreshingly simple and low-impact.

The Business Case for Doing Better

Sustainability makes commercial sense.

Businesses increasingly recognise that environmental awareness drives:

  • Employee wellbeing
People perform better in light, natural environments.
  • Brand credibility
Customers and partners value authentic action over slogans.
  • Operational resilience
Generating and managing our own power reduces exposure to energy volatility.

The future belongs to organisations that integrate purpose with performance and our community here reflects that mindset.
